Driving Anxiety

Drive Therapy Sessions

Drive Therapy Sessions are unlike traditional refresher driving lessons.  Whereas traditional refresher lessons work on the client's car control skills, I focus mainly on the self limiting beliefs and negative thought process the client has learnt (subconsciously) and attached to the driving task.

Unlike traditional driving instructors, I use a combination of Life Coaching, CBT and Behavioural Change techniques which have been proven to be successful in combating driving phobias and driving anxiety.  Even though traditional driving instructors are expert in giving driving instruction, most do not have these skills to help the client challenge their anxiety or phobias.

During Drive Therapy sessions we explore:

• The client's previous driving experience

• The client's background and driving timeline (this is important as most self limiting beliefs are formed from the client's past)

• The client's driving goals (short, medium and long term goals)

• A short assessment drive (on the first in-car session)

• The use of Drive Therapy techniques (The Drive Therapy Toolbox)

• Structured and Safe Driving Exposure

• Design and plan a driving plan for future sessions (if necessary)

The Drive Therapy course is designed around clients needs and goals.  There are no compulsory set number of sessions.  However, we do highly recommend that clients initially book a Drive Therapy Day Course.  This allows plenty of time to learn the tools, techniques and methods to then put into practice on the road.

After the initial Drive Therapy Day Course, clients have the option of booking further Drive Therapy support sessions, as and when required.  Many clients feedback how much more confident they feel after the initial day course and are then happy to continue working on their driving goals alone.  Other clients prefer to have continual support and use the support sessions as a "Top-Up" to keep them progressing.

We also offer a virtual Drive Therapy course for clients who wish to get a better understanding of their driving anxiety and are happy to put interventions into practice.  The Drive Therapy iCourse is a popular course option for clients who are based outside of my working areas and are self motivated to work towards their driving goals!

Any information that is discussed during Drive Therapy sessions is kept private and confidential.

Where do Drive Therapy sessions take place?

Drive Therapy sessions are flexible and can take place in a number of ways.

Drive Therapy In-Car & On-Road (face to face)

Most Drive Therapy sessions take place in the client's own vehicle or at home / meeting place (if the client does not feel comfortable with getting into a car straight away).

Drive Therapy Coaching via Zoom

I have helped many clients conquer their driving phobias through coaching via Zoom.  This works particularly well with clients that live outside of my working area.  The client employs a traditional local driving instructor to work on their car control skills and myself to help them challenge their phobia.  I have helped clients nationally using this method.

Whether the client is receiving face to face coaching or phone coaching, all clients receive additional text or email support between sessions to help encourage, motivate and support them throughout the Drive Therapy course.
